ImageWell, I suppose I jinxed myself with my regular bragging of how I've never had problems with my 360. To be honest, it has been great; very reliable up to this point. However, tonight, I turned it on...everything worked fine...I connected to my media server....started playing a video and about 20 seconds into the video most of the image turned green. I mean, it was still working because I could see things moving and when I stopped the video I could still move around the dashboard it's just that everything was green now. So, I decided to reboot the box.......BAD decision....As of now, I have an Xbox360 that seems to be working fine (NO rrod and I can hear sound and it connects to live and all) just NO video. Yes, it seems that my video card is fried. And yes, my warranty expired 3 months ago. I've only found one report of someone having this same problem and they said that when Microsoft fixed it and sent it back, their DVD drive failed less than a month later. Since, I've already noticed my DVD drive making noise I'm confident something similar would happen to me. So, I'm throwing in the towel and getting a new one (I'll mess around with fixing this one when I have time in the future).

To be fair, I have worked it a little hard this past week or so. I've watched about 6 full seasons of one of my TV shows (streamed from my media server) so it hasn't really had much time to rest.

So, it looks like I will be buying the Xbox360 Super Elite tomorrow with the 250GB hdd and the new Splinter Cell Convictions.

A new set of tires mounted and balanced and a new Xbox in the same day. How depressing...

Note: I will probably be popping open my Halo Edition Xbox360 that just died at some point to see what I can do about it (or at least mess around with it).

Your box fried?! Ugh.......I HATE the 360 for that. EVERY last person I know who has a 360 says there's fails right around when the warranty period is up, no matter how well they take care of it. ugh

I've noticed with mine, when i'm playing forza, right after a race when its loading the scoreboards, everything gets really choppy, then it clears up once its all loaded.....it never did that when i first played the game....I SWEAR a failure is imminent :(

a) now that I look around I don't think it fried...I think it's just a matter of the GPU overheating (hasn't fried yet). Basically, it looks like it's the same RROD error that I've fixed on a few boxes already.

b) it's amazing how they can engineer something to fail 2 months after a certain time period. I'm amazed.

c) I've played the last 3 Splinter Cells....we were actually big into it in college, especially when they started adding in the coop missions

oh and yea, it isn't like it was crammed back in a corner. It's been sitting in the same WELL VENTILATED open area since the day I bought it. I havent even moved it and this still happens....poor engineering

Yep, I just did a little temporary rigging and voila...the video is back...it's definitely just the GPU overheating...so it's definitely fixable by the method that I'm already familiar with. Well, that makes me a little happier.

However, I was excited to have a new elite. Who knows, I may keep it (probably not). Although like I said, my DVD drive does make weird noises that make me think it's going to die soon. Man, decisions decisions...

I will be posting the fix as soon as I have time though :)

Well, the repair seemed to work...I'm 3 full TV shows in and it's still chuggin along. I'll put up the fix later.

Three months and still going strong!!!
As with that linked report, however, my DVD drive is failing :(
I've read possible repairs for it so I will be working on that next.
