Jailbreaking iPhones Legalized
Jul 26th
Well, for those of you that haven’t hopped on the superior Android bandwagon and have been scared to “jailbreak” your iPhone because of its potential legal issues, fear no more.
Thanks to pushes by the Electronic Frontier Foundation, the Federal Government has just indicated that exemptions will be made to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) to include “Jailbreaking” smartphones well within the consumer’s legal rights.
Update
Consumers still shouldn’t jailbreak their iPhones says Apple (really? that’s shocking Apple…you don’t want consumers to do what you’ve been arguing against in court…*gasp*)
iPhone4 Fail
Jun 23rd
I just felt like posting a few links to articles about the “wonderful” iPhone4. Some of these you may question but mind you, they are real. Maverick didn’t believe one of them and tried it on a friends (the reception problem). Really Apple? Did you make ANY calls with this before releasing it? I find it extremely hard to believe that noone there noticed that the signal disappeared while it was in the user’s hand. Was every tester using a bluetooth headset? Were they all fascinated by the “Facetime” video calling with it laying on a table? This is ridiculous. “Oh, let’s just sell it, it’s the iPhone4. They’ll buy it no matter what’s wrong with it. Our fans will follow us regardless of our problems. We’re ingrained too much into their lives with iTunes for them to give up on us now.”

Update:
Steve Jobs’s response (as seen @TechCruch……@Engadget) to the reception issue.
Just avoid holding it that way.
Also, a friend of mine brought up a good point. The field testers for the iPhone probably didn’t notice the problem because of those camouflaged 3GS look-a-like covers they had on them when testing. With that on, noone would have been touching the metal band. Oh if only someone had realized it was going to be a problem (Thanks Professor Gert).
Update:
Response to Jobs’s response…@Engadget
You’re holding it wrong. We’re only holding it the way you showed us.
LG Cyon LH 2300
Apr 18th
Author: autiger_seoul
About six months ago I joined the touch phone revolution by purchasing the LG Cyon LH2300 from my local LG OZ store here in Korea. Ever since the iPhone launched I had wanted one, but I’m a Verizon guy and AT&T’s service wasn’t very good at my house, so I was stuck with a regular slide phone. When I moved back to Seoul in 2008 I decided to do some internet searching about Korean handsets and buy a nice phone. I soon realized that the cell phone here is much more than a phone. Locals here use their handsets for everything from paying bills to watching free live TV (T-DMB) to scanning to ride public transportation and even to buy a whopper at BK.
After searching around, I decided to purchase an LG LH2300 partly because of the price. Korean phones are immensely expensive, to the tune of 800 dollars or more. When I purchased my phone, it had been out for about 4 months and therefore had come done in price, to a more reasonable price of 200 dollars.
The first thing I noticed when I powered on the phone was an OZ enabled screen, this means that the phone has full internet capabilities (as long as you pay for it) as there is no WIFI, which is something I wish it had. One helpful feature that it does have is a wireless phonebook and data port. You just place your old phone next to it and use the transfer data feature on each phone and all of your old contacts are synced, even if your old phone is not LG. I also noticed that the phone has Bluetooth and easily syncs with my Macbook Pro (after I set my own password). At first glance, I was pretty happy with my purchase.
When I took the phone around with me for a few days and I began to explore the detailed features of it, I became pleasantly surprised to find out that I have free live TV right on my phone! Here in Korea it’s called DMB and many of the new phones have it as a standard feature. I had already loaded about 300 songs on the external memory card but having live TV at anytime is great! Especially because I use public transportation almost everyday so I can still watch my sports while on the subway or bus.
iPhone 4
Jan 10th
Just thought I’d throw out the news. I’m sure there’s plenty of other articles out there but I heard from a friend who manages an AT&T store that the newest iteration of the iPhone is on the books for the end of summer. As we all know, release dates get pushed back all the time. But it seems as though, at this point at least, AT&T is planning to have it at the end of summer. I wonder how it’s going to stack up against all these Android phones that are hitting the market. Only time will tell.
Nokia Sues Apple
Oct 22nd
Engadget posted an article today discussing a newly filed patent infringement lawsuit against Apple concerning their iPhone. It seems that Nokia’s lawsuit claims that ALL iPhone models shipped infringe on 10 of Espoo’s patents. It appears this issue has been discussed back and forth between the two companies; however, it seems that Apple’s refusal of liscensing terms has forced Nokia to take legal recourse.
